Bernie is an AI Assistant designed to make LaunchNotes more efficient for you and your team. In the editor, Bernie makes it easier than ever to draft announcements and roadmap items. She does this by using artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform any kind of existing documentation into clear, concise, and engaging content.

There are a number of ways Bernie can be useful. For example:

  • You're not sure where or how to start an announcement or roadmap item

  • You want to make sure your content is clear and informative

  • You’re short on time

  • You’re having difficulty translating technical information into broadly accessible language

Bernie is available on the Business and Enterprise subscription plans.

Getting Started

In your draft announcement toolbar, you’ll see the Bernie Astronaut logo. Selecting this will bring up the Bernie form, which has fields for your source content and Bernie’s Output, the Output tone and Generate content and regenerate button.

Simply paste your content into the Source content field of the Bernie form, select your output tone, and you’ll see your AI generated content appear in the Bernie’s Output section for you to review.

If you’re not happy with the results, you can select the regenerate button, and Bernie will regenerate this content again - you can do this as many times as you wish.

Regenerating content

When regenerating your content, you can select a different tone, and/or modify the source content.

Bernie is a creative and clever AI! Even with the same input and tone, regenerating content will produce different results.

There is a rate limit of 60 generations or regenerations per minute

Once you’re happy with the results, select the Insert AI output button, which will close out the source content form and paste the generated results into your draft announcement or roadmap item where your cursor was. In the editor, you can continue to format and edit before publishing.

💡 The more content and context you can provide in your input data, the better the results will be.

What are the different Output tones?

The Output tones tell Bernie what style she should write in.

  • Concise tends to be more matter-of-fact and on the shorter side.

  • Friendly tends to include a welcome and overall approachable language and framing.

  • Informative tends to provide a detailed description of source content and on the longer side.

That said, Bernie is creative and has an element of randomness to her. Even with the same source content and Output tone, asking her to ‘regenerate’ the output can lead to very different results.

What content can I use?

You can use almost anything as the source content for Bernie to translate into your draft content, such as:

  • Gitlab/Github MR/PRs descriptions

  • Commit messages

  • Product requirement documents

  • Meeting Transcripts

  • JIRA tasks

  • Slack message and notes

  • etc.

Bernie’s different Use cases

Bernie can be used once to generate your whole announcement, and can also be used several times within an announcement - for example using the “concise” Output can help to translate a chunk of text to a succinct bullet point, which you can repeat as many times as you wish to form a list.
