Why Use Jira Automation with LaunchNotes?
There are two main ways to connect Jira and LaunchNotes: Jira Automation and the LaunchNotes Jira app integration.
For the LaunchNotes Jira app integration, see this help article.
Here’s how they differ — and why you might use Jira Automation:
| Jira Automation with LaunchNotes | LaunchNotes Jira App Integration |
Setup | Manual setup using Jira’s native Automation builder + LaunchNotes API | Install the LaunchNotes app directly into Jira |
Use cases | Flexible workflows to automatically create/update LaunchNotes Announcements or Roadmap Items when Jira issues change | Link Jira issues directly to LaunchNotes items, view LaunchNotes info inside Jira, use AI to generate announcements from completed Jira issues |
Customization | Highly customizable: trigger on almost any field change, status update, label, etc. | More structured: focused on linking and syncing issue information |
Technical skill needed | Some familiarity with Jira Automation and LaunchNotes API IDs required | Minimal — install and connect |
Best for | Teams who want full automation and control over what actions trigger LaunchNotes updates | Teams who want an easy link between Jira issues and LaunchNotes, without setting up automations |
Using Jira Automation with LaunchNotes is especially helpful if you want to:
Auto-create Announcements when Jira epics are marked “Done” or issues are released.
Auto-update Roadmap Items based on Jira status changes.
Create complex automation flows based on labels, priorities, or custom fields.
