Which events trigger notifications being sent to subscribers?

Notifications can optionally be sent to your subscribers when publishing an Announcement.

There are two forms of notifications that your subscribers can receive, with one being via email, and the other via Slack.

Notification triggers

Notifications are only sent when an announcement is published, and the option for sending notifications to subscribers is selected.

How subscribers are included/excluded from an announcement notification

Categories give your subscribers or end-users the ability to select which areas of your platform or organization they wish to receive updates about. A published notification will only be sent to subscribers who have subscribed to the relevant category or categories tagged in an announcement or corresponding roadmap item.

If you draft an announcement and do not include any categories or roadmap item/s (with associated categories), notifications will not be able to be sent when you publish your announcements, as no categories or roadmap items were selected to inform the recipients of your announcement notification.

In this case, on step 2 of the draft announcement workflow, Choose notification channels, you will see a message appear informing you that notifications cannot be sent due to there being no relevant categories or roadmap items, and directing you back to the step 1, Draft announcement screen to add these in if required:
