Cohorts for Announcements

Cohorts let you create custom lists of subscribers to send product update email notifications to, regardless of which categories they've subscribed to. Instead of waiting for users to opt into content, you choose who receives it.

⭐ Cohorts are only available on Premium plans

When to use Cohorts

  • Send feature announcements only to customers on specific plans

  • Share beta updates with a test group before a wider release

  • Communicate enterprise features to premium customers only

  • Send announcements to an internal team at your company

How Cohorts work

  • Define your cohort - Add individual subscribers by email or include all subscribers from a specific domain

  • Target your announcements - Send email updates directly to cohort members, even if they haven't subscribed to that category

💡 Subscribers must be confirmed on your LaunchNotes project to receive notifications.


Creating Cohorts

To create a Cohort, go to the Audience drop-down tab in the management portal

  1. Navigate to Audience > Cohorts

  2. Select Create Cohort in the upper right-hand corner

  3. Create a Cohort Name and Description

  4. Choose if you'd like to add Subscribers one-by-one or a specific Domain.

    1. Subscriber: Add specific emails from your list of confirmed Subscribers to your page.

    2. Domains: Easily add a domain from your list of confirmed Subscribers. So for example if you add google.com, that cohort will include anyone who is subscribed with a google email address.

  5. and then select Add to generate the pick-list of Subscribers or Domains. There is also search to quickly find the specific Subscriber or Domain you’re looking for.


Using Cohorts in an announcement

When creating an announcement:

  1. Navigate to the Announcements step and either create a New Draft or select from an existing Draft announcement.

  2. Cohorts can be found under the Categorization section of the editor.

  3. Select the Cohort(s) you want to notify. Using Cohorts does not require that you choose a Category.

  4. You can review the list of all the notification recipients - for Categories, Slack, and Cohorts in the Recipients List.

  5. If a Cohort recipient is not subscribed to the announcement's categories, they will still receive an email notification.

💡Ensure Email is set to ON under Publishing Channels so your cohorts get the email notifications.
