Summary

You can control exactly where each announcement is published using the Publishing Channels panel in your announcement draft. Toggle channels on or off to publish to your public page, send email notifications, post to Slack channels, or use any combination based on what makes sense for each update.

Steps

  1. Select New Draft in Announcements or go to an existing Draft in the LaunchNotes Management Portal.

  2. Locate the Publishing Channels panel in the publishing workflow on the right-hand side of the Editor

  3. Toggle on or off the channels you want to use:

    • Public or Private Page - Posts an Announcement to your LaunchNotes Product Updates page

    • Email - Sends email notifications to subscribers

    • Slack - Sends notifications to your connected Slack channels

  4. Customize additional options for the Announcement, such as email subject lines for emails, Labels, and Roadmap Items)

  5. Once the Announcement is drafted and ready, you can Publish Now or Schedule Announcement

💡 At least one Category or one Cohort needs to be selected to publish to Email or Slack

Key Details

  • You can publish to any combination of channels—all three, just one, or any mix

  • You can skip publishing to the Product Updates page and only to Email and/or Slack, however, an Announcement not published to the Product Updates page will not be available content for a Digest

  • User notification preferences are still respected when you select channels

  • You must have channels already set up (Email, Slack integration) to use them for publishing

  • If Public Page is turned OFF, then a url will not be generated for the announcement.

Use Cases

  • Weekly status updates to specific Slack channels: Send quick end-of-week progress updates to dedicated Slack channels. Keep cross-functional stakeholders informed without cluttering inboxes or your public page

  • Private beta program announcements: Send targeted emails detailing for new beta programs without advertising them publicly

  • VIP customer exclusives via Slack Connect: Share tailored updates with top customers in dedicated Slack Connect channels before news goes public.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don't see the Slack option, confirm your Slack integration is connected in Settings > Integrations

  • If Email or Slack recipient counts look incorrect, click "View all recipients" to verify your audience

  • Contact LaunchNotes support if the Publishing Channels panel doesn't appear in your workflow

  • If you accidentally published an announcement with emails toggled to OFF then copy the published an announcement and send again. You can always unpublish the announcement you originally published.

What to Do Next

  • How do I set up my Slack Channel → Installing Slack Channels for LaunchNotes Notifications

  • Align on your publishing strategy and cadence → Based on cadence of Announcements, determine the best balance of Full Announcements vs Excerpt Announcements vs Digests and the channels (Product Updates page, email, Slack) you use
