Summary

You can add a hero image or video when creating an announcement by choosing either option in the banner area above your announcement header. Hero images and videos appear at the top of announcements across all distribution channels, making your updates more engaging and professional.

Steps

  1. Open the announcement you want to add media to (or create a new announcement).

  2. Look for the hero section area above the announcement header.

  3. Choose between two options:

    • Add image to hero section: Drag and drop an image file or click to browse and select your image

    • Add video to hero section: Paste a Loom or Vidyard video URL

  4. Your hero media will automatically display once uploaded or embedded.

Notes & important info

For hero images:

  • Supported file types: JPG, PNG, or GIF

  • Maximum file size: 10MB

  • Recommended dimensions: 5:3 aspect ratio for best display across all channels

For hero videos:

  • Supported platforms: Loom and Vidyard

  • Format: Paste the direct URL from your Loom or Vidyard video

๐Ÿ’กIf you embed a Loom video, you can only view the video on the announcement page. Email and Slack will display a short gif hinting to the user that it's a video and when you click through, you will be directed to the announcement page.

Example of email with a Loom video in the hero:

Where hero media appears: Your hero image or video will display on your main LaunchNotes page, on the published announcement itself, in email notifications, in the embedded widget, and when shared on social media.

Design resources

LaunchNotes provides a free Hero Image Template Library in Figma that you can use as a starting point for creating images. These templates help you create professional hero images without needing a dedicated designer.

Troubleshooting

  • If your image doesn't upload, check that the file size is under 10MB and that you're using a supported file type (JPG, PNG, or GIF).

  • If your video doesn't embed, confirm you're using a direct Loom or Vidyard URL and that the video is set to public or accessible.

  • If your image appears distorted or cropped unexpectedly, try using the recommended 5:3 aspect ratio before uploading.

Hero image display

There are several places where your hero images will be displayed when published, including the following:
