Summary

You can control several email notification behaviors in LaunchNotes including whether to display full announcement content or just titles in notifications, whether new visitors are automatically subscribed, whether notifications default to on or off for new announcements, and whether to include category labels in emails. These settings are found in Settings > Email Settings > Settings tab.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Settings in the admin navigation bar

  2. Click the Email Settings tab

  3. Select the Settings sub-tab

  4. Configure your preferences for each section:

    • Notification security

    • Subscription behavior

    • Announcement notifications

    • Categories

Notification security

Display announcement content in email and Slack notifications?

Choose whether subscribers see the full announcement content in their email and Slack notifications or just see a title that links to your page.

  • Show announcement content: Displays the full announcement in the notification (default)

  • Hide announcement content: Shows only the title and a link to view the full announcement on your page

When to hide content: This is useful for additional security on private pages where you want to control access to content, or when you want to drive traffic to your LaunchNotes page to track engagement.

Subscription behavior

Auto-subscribe new users to your private page?

Control whether visitors to your private page are automatically subscribed to receive email notifications.

  • Yes, auto-subscribe: New visitors are automatically subscribed on their first visit

  • No, don't auto-subscribe: Visitors must manually subscribe to receive notifications (default)

Why auto-subscribe: This helps with user adoption and engagement when introducing your LaunchNotes page to your team or customers. Users can always unsubscribe or change their preferences later by visiting your page.

Announcement notifications

Set the default setting for new announcements to send notifications?

Choose whether new announcements automatically trigger notifications when published or require you to manually enable notifications.

  • No, set notifications to off: Announcements won't send notifications unless you manually turn them on before publishing (default)

  • Yes, set notifications to on: Announcements will send email/Slack notifications when published unless you manually turn them off

Send all announcement emails with "excerpt-only"?

Choose whether emails show the full announcement content or just a preview excerpt by default.

  • No, include full announcement content in email: Shows the complete announcement in the email (default)

  • Yes, replace the long form content with a shorter, customizable excerpt: Shows only a preview with a link to read more

For a deeper understanding of excerpt-only emails, please read this article.

Even if you set a global default, you can override this setting on individual announcements before publishing.

Categories

Include associated categories in your emails?

Choose whether category labels appear in announcement emails.

  • No, do not include categories in emails: Category labels are hidden (default)

  • Yes, include categories in emails: Shows which categories each announcement belongs to

Why include categories: This helps subscribers quickly identify which type of update they're reading, especially if you use categories to organize different product areas or update types.

When not to include categories: If you have a lot of categories your email content might get buried below the categories and your user will have to scroll down the email.
