Overview

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used for delivering regularly changing web content. It allows users and applications to stay updated on new content without the need to visit the website itself. RSS feeds are commonly used for blogs, news websites, and podcasts. The feed usually contains a summary of the content, along with a link to the full article or post. Users can subscribe to a feed by using an RSS reader, which can display the content from multiple feeds in one place.

The LaunchNotes RSS feed contains the announcements of a specific LaunchNotes page. The announcement excerpt is used as the content, and a link to the full content on the web is provided for every announcement.

Accessing the feed

When enabled under Settings→Embed, API, & RSS→RSS and not set to Private, the feed will be served as an alternate URL. For most destinations and readers, visitors to your published page can simply copy and paste the URL into their destination of choice.

When set to private, the feed will be hidden from the published page, and will require a token to display. More information on setting the feed to private is available below.

Uses

Common use cases for the LaunchNotes RSS feed include:

  • Slack: new announcements post into a private or public channel without installing a new app

  • Microsoft teams: using Microsoft Power Automate, new announcements post into a private or public channel

  • RSS reader: new announcements appear alongside updates from other sources

  • Zapier, IFTTT, Workato, and other integration platforms that support RSS: use new announcements as a trigger for actions in another platform

    • Post to LinkedIn and Twitter

    • Draft or send a personal email

    • Trigger a webhook

    • Trigger a webhook and combine with GraphQL to create a draft announcement in a different project in LaunchNotes (help article coming soon)

Settings

Admins in LaunchNotes can locate the RSS feed settings under Settings→Embed, API, & RSS→RSS.

The feed can be enabled or disabled, and set to private or public.

The feed URL is available here, and also by using a URL from the published page.

Custom feed

You can configure the feed to populate with only announcements associated with specific categories and/or roadmap items. Learn more.

Private feed

By setting the feed to be private, a token will be generated that is required to access the feed. Note: Anyone that has access to the private/hidden URL will be able to see the content. Learn more.

RSS enabled

With the RSS feed enabled the URL of the published LaunchNotes page gains an attribute making it readable by RSS readers. With RSS enabled, you can inspect the page and look for the element beginning with <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" to see the RSS feed URL. Admins will also be able to view the feed URL under the settings.

Visitors to the published page can easily create an RSS feed for any specific categories or roadmap items. Learn more.

Disabling the RSS feed will remove the alternative URL from the published page, and make any previously enabled feed inaccessible.
